Many of us have transitioned to remote work over the last year. While some of us are slowly returning to work, many are now operating fully from home or a hybrid model. As you know, making a space you enjoy being in is SO IMPORTANT to your mental health.
If you’re going to be working from home, there are a lot of things to consider. First, you definitely want to be sure the space is comfortable. This is especially important if you are sitting in front of a computer for the majority of the day.
Make sure your chair is comfortable and adjusted to the right height. You can also add a pillow for back support like this girl boss pillow from Look Lagoon Lifestyle.
Keep in mind, you do not have to have some huge dedicated room to have a nice workspace. You can use a corner in a bedroom, a small empty wall in your living room, anywhere that you can fit a small desk can be transformed into a nice office nook.
You may also want to update the wall above your desk (or other walls if you do have a dedicated office). Think about fun decor or inspirational quotes to put on the wall. Wonder Wire Designs makes a beautiful wire girl boss quote that would look amazing above a desk.
This wall sign is another beautiful addition to any office. I really love having inspirational quotes, it helps motivate me especially when things seem overwhelming. This sign from Cherie Kay Signs adds a beautiful farmhouse touch to an office space.
Keeping your space clutter free and organized will also help you feel more relaxed in your space. Find things you love to help you organize the space, like these fun concrete pencil holders from Cedar and Stone Garden. These come in a variety of colors so they are perfect for a fun and bright space or a relaxed neutral space!
When my company decided to go remote, I was excited, but my cubicle office had a HUGE window and a beautiful view. I had tons of natural light and a pretty landscape to look at behind mu computer. Setting up a tiny desk in my bedroom to work from home….yea definitely missing some pretty scenery. So it is a huge help to brighten up the place with colors and plants. I love these amethyst air plant holders from Now and Zen Terrariums. They are small so they can decorate a tiny space, they are adorable AND they are air plants, so very low maintenance if you were not gifted with a green thumb.
Something I am TERRIBLE at working from home is drinking enough water! Seriously, I am the worst. I have found that having an insulated tumbler definitely helps, since my water stays cold and does sweat all over my desk! I found this awesome tumbler on Etsy and it will FOR SURE make you feel like a BOSS. This tumbler is from EndlessCreationssCo on Etsy! You can even personalize it with your name!
Maybe you are now sharing a workspace with a spouse or family member? I saw this metal wall scrabble board and instantly fell in LOVE. Seriously, for one I love scrabble….for two my husband and I are very competitive. (He MAY have recently beat me at scrabble sigh.) Wouldn’t this be fun to have a game going to play throughout the day/week as you get up to stretch, take a break, eat lunch, etc.? If scrabble isn’t really your thing, this company offers several other wall games in their shop like tic-tac-toe, basketball, connect four, and many others!
Setting up your home office to be a happy place and not a place of stress is SO IMPORTANT. I am home ALL THE TIME now, so it gets pretty overwhelming at times. Sometimes you just need to brighten a space up to feel better and get yourself in a good head space. Or buy yourself a little something for your desk to treat yourself! I have been seeing these glitter pens everywhere and they are so flippin’ cute. Plus, we all know how valuable a good pen is!
Ultimately, I think any place you are going to be spending a huge chunk of your time in needs to bring you some joy or at the very least, not stress you out.
